Marc Chagall’s 'Sirène au pin' (1967) is a luminous colour lithograph created for 'Nice et la Côte d’Azur', Chagall’s celebrated portfolio celebrating the Mediterranean landscape and atmosphere. The composition combines a fantastical mermaid with a tall pine tree, set against a radiant blue ground, bringing together the dreamlike imagery and vibrant colour that characterise Chagall’s mature graphic work. The fluid forms and rich tonal contrasts evoke the warmth, light and poetry of the Côte d’Azur.

Lithographed by Charles Sorlier, under the direct supervision of Marc Chagall, and printed by Mourlot in Paris, 'Sirène au pin' demonstrates Chagall’s close collaboration with the great Parisian printmaking tradition. The work transforms his personal mythology such as floating figures, lovers, animals and Mediterranean motifs, into a vivid and accessible image, exemplifying the expressive freedom and technical brilliance of his late colour lithographs.
