Between Lyrics and Legends: The Art of Bernie Taupin: An Online Only Summer Exhibition of Two Sides of the '60s & Reflections
Best known as the lyricist behind Elton John’s greatest hits, Bernie Taupin channels his storytelling into a bold visual language that merges pop history with personal expression.
This exclusive online exhibition showcases five works from his series Two Sides of the '60s, a collaboration with legendary photographer Terry O’Neill. Taupin reinterprets O’Neill’s iconic portraits—of Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, and others—by layering them with vivid Americana, comic book motifs, and pop symbolism. The result is a visual archaeology of fame and cultural memory.
In contrast, three works from his Reflections series highlight a more abstract, introspective voice. Here, Taupin draws on flag iconography, textured surfaces, and lyrical gestures to explore identity, legacy, and the residue of fame.
Together, these two series of artworks offer a rare view into the dual artistry of a man whose lyrics helped define an era—and whose paintings now reflect it back in layered, luminous form.
